Home Minister Sudhan Gurung Directs Against Misuse of State Funds in Disaster Risk Reduction

Kathmandu. Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has directed to prevent the misuse of state funds while reducing national disaster risks. Speaking at a meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, Gurung commented that during the previous governments, helicopters were excessively misused in the name of inspecting flood and landslide-affected areas. He said, 'This time, I instruct not to exhaust state property by making unnecessary visits.' Minister Gurung also announced that he himself would not fly by helicopter. He said, 'I myself will not misuse state property by flying in a helicopter.' The heads of security agencies were present at the meeting. Expressing dissatisfaction with the traditional working style in disaster reduction, Gurung said, 'We always engage in rescue and relief only after a disaster occurs, due to which satisfactory results have not been achieved.' He stated that it is necessary to be vigilant and prepared even before a disaster strikes. Instructing to be in a state of readiness from before in areas at risk of floods and landslides, he said, 'If all agencies work as an integrated team, no one will have to lose their lives in a disaster.'
