Prohibitory orders imposed in Phungling and Pathibhara areas

Taplejung, February 23 — The District Administration Office of Taplejung has issued a prohibitory order due to concerns over potential disruptions to public peace and security following a clash between the "No Cable Car" group and the police.

The altercation occurred during a protest against the construction of the cable car at Pathibhara.

The order, issued by the Chief District Officer under Section 6, Subsection 3 (a) of the Local Administration Act, 2028 (1971), aims to prevent any situations that could harm peace and order in the region.

According to the announcement, the prohibitory order has been enforced from 5 AM on the 11th of Falgun 2081 (February 23, 2025), and will remain in effect until further notice.

The order highlights concerns over potential demonstrations and processions in the Phungling Municipality market area, which could lead to disturbances, clashes, or other adverse situations that might affect public safety.

The order prohibits gatherings of more than five individuals, as well as any form of assembly, procession, protest, or blockade within the restricted area.

It also warns that any individual or group violating the order or obstructing its enforcement will face legal action in accordance with the prevailing laws.

The restricted zone includes several areas within the Phungling Municipality, such as Ward No. 7 in the east, Ward No. 7 in the west, Ghodechaur up to the Thalang Dhara area, Ward No. 4 in the north, Ukalipani, and Ward No. 6 in the south, extending to the Sherpa Tole (Veterinary Kanchanjunga Tole area).

Additionally, the prohibitory order also covers the Kaflepati-Balludanda region, 100 meters to the east of the Tourist Police building, extending to the west of Balludanda, north to the Cable Car base station, and south to the New Bus Park area.
