Cold wave disrupts traffic on East-West Highway at Daunne
Butwal, January 8 — A severe cold wave has caused traffic disruptions on the East-West Highway, particularly at Daunne.
The stretch of road, located on the Narayangadh-Butwal road expansion project, includes steep inclines and declines, making it prone to slippery conditions during cold weather. As a result, traffic has been blocked in this section since early Wednesday morning.
According to DSP Resham Bohara from the District Police Office, West Nawalparasi, the roads near Khursani Khola in Bardghat Municipality-4 have become dangerously slippery due to fog and the cold wave, leading to a complete obstruction of two-way traffic on the East-West Highway.
Police have stopped large and freight vehicles at Dumkibas to the east and Bardghat to the west to prevent further accidents.
This is not the first time such disruptions have occurred; during the monsoon season, heavy rainfall caused mudslides and traffic blockages, particularly on the uphill sections of the highway.
