Former Speaker Dhungana to receive national honors, public holiday declared on Monday
Kathmandu, November 18 — The final farewell of former Speaker Late Daman Nath Dhungana will be conducted with national honors. A cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar made the decision to bid farewell to the late Speaker Dhungana with national honors.
The meeting also decided to declare a public holiday on Monday to mourn Dhungana's demise. Government spokesperson Prithvi Subba Gurung informed that the meeting expressed profound sorrow, heartfelt condolences, and sympathy to the bereaved family.
The government has also decided to lower the national flag to half-mast at all government offices within Nepal and abroad, according to Gurung.
Dhungana passed away on Sunday afternoon at the age of 83 while undergoing treatment. According to family sources, his mortal remains will be kept at Sano Gaucharn from 11 AM to 1 PM on Monday for public tribute.
Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli will attend the tribute program at Sano Gaucharn. The late Dhungana is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter.
