Update: Darchula jeep accident claims eight lives

Darchula, November 15 — A jeep accident in Darchula has claimed the lives of eight people.

The incident occurred at 4:00 AM today in the Sirad Khola area of Shaileshikhar Municipality-5 while the jeep, bearing the registration number MA1JA 338, was en route from Malikarjun to Gokuleshwar.

According to Yagya Raj Joshi, the Chief District Officer of Darchula, six people were confirmed dead at the accident site, two more died while being treated and five others have sustained serious injuries.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Prakash Dahal, those who died in the jeep accident include 30-year-old Birendra Rawal from Lekgaun, Shaileshikhar-5, 28-year-old Shanti Rawal, 45-year-old Dilip Bista from Nakatad, Shaileshikhar-9, 15-year-old Sanjib Bohara from Dilashaini-5, Baitadi, Birendra Bohara, 40-year-old Mina Lekhak from Nakatad, Shaileshikhar Municipality-9, 45-year-old Mohammad Safir from Bijnaur district, Uttar Pradesh, India, and 18-year-old Mohammad Wasim.

The identity of one of the deceased is still to be confirmed.

The victims were reportedly returning after attending the Jatra (cultural festival). The condition of the injured is critical.

The injured have been sent to Gokuleshwar Hospital for treatment.

The exact cause of the accident and the number of people in the jeep remain unclear, and further details are awaited.
