CIB official to be sent to India to investigate smuggled gold

KATHMANDU, Aug 31: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) is going to send an official to India to investigate the 60 kg and 716 grams of gold smuggled from the Tribhuvan International Airport. 

Sources informed Ratopati that the Bureau is preparing to send the official to investigate the gold on Thursday. The official partner with the new ‘Interpol India’ and gather information in the case.

Investigations have shown that the gold was smuggled from Hong Kong to Nepal and was about to be sent to India. To further investigate this, Nepal is sending personnel to India to investigate the group that was going the receive the gold.

Uma Prasad Chaturvedi, Consular SSP of the Nepalese Embassy in Delhi, has also been included in the investigation team of the gold case. Bureau officials have informed that Chaturvedi is helping in the investigation from India.

In coordination with Chaturvedi, the Bureau arrested Kishore Basnet and brought him to Kathmandu on Wednesday. CIB has sent SSP Dinesh Acharya to Hong Kong to gather information regarding the smuggling. He left for Hong Kong on the night of August 29.

Investigations has shown the involvement of Chinese citizens in the gold case. The gold was hidden in the brake pads of motorcycles and smuggled to Kathmandu by Ready Trade Pvt. Ltd. After thorough investigations, it was discovered that the gangs had been smuggling the gold to Nepal, melting it and sending it to India.
