Incessant rain in eastern Terai causing floods

BIRATNAGAR, July 14: Incessant rain has resulted in floods in the eastern Terai region. It is the first time flooding has occurred this year. According to the Morang police, rivers have entered the settlements of some places in the districts including Biratnagar. Although no major damage has been caused, people have been affected by the flooding.

The flood of the Singhia River in Biratnagar has entered the squatter settlement of Biratnagar ward numbers 1, 2 and 8, due to which most of the places in the area have been flooded and more than a dozen of families in the squatter settlements have been displaced.

Similarly, Biratnagar-8 ward chairman Ram Pokharel said that a dozen houses were inundated when the river flooded a squatter settlement in Balgopal tole located in Biratnagar ward no. 8. He said that the members of the flooded households have been moved to a safe place.

Similarly, the houses of ward numbers 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 15, 16 and 19 of Biratnagar have also been submerged in water. The police are rescuing them. 

Likewise, more than a dozen houses were flooded in Katahari and Jahada Rural Municipalities, informed Morang Police.
