Health Minister urges agitating doctorss to go to assigned stations

Kathmandu– Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health and Population, Upendra Yadav, has called on government doctors to go the assigned working stations.

In his call to the government doctors agitating against the government employees adjustment process, he urged them first to go to the areas where they are deputed, render services and then the government would listen them and take steps to address their issues.

Talking to media persons after attending the programme for launching of several reports by the Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC) here today, the minister said the government was committed to ensuring people’s rights to quality health services.

It may be noted that members of the Government Doctors Association of Nepal (GODAN) have halted the services of government hospitals, except the emergency for the past three days citing that adjustment in the State and local level would block their transfer towards the centre and the adjustment was made going against the agreement reached between the government (Ministry of Health and Population) and the GODAN.

He further said the government focus had been concentrated on formulating a research-based policy, seeking attention to the control of non-communicable diseases.

Ministry’s secretary Chandra Kumar Ghimire was of the view that the government should increase investment to see improvements in the entire health sector.

NHRC executive director Prof Dr Anjani Kumar Jha said the Council recently conducted 10 research projects at the call of the ministry while ministry’s chief specialist Dr Sushilnath Pyakurel highlighted the need of a one-door policy to make health research projects effective.
