Litterbugs gifted waste under sanitation campaign

Baniyani–The Arjundhara Sanitation Campaign of Jhapa on Thursday presented waste as gifts to litterbugs. A group of youths campaigning for clean city handed waste as gift to two local shopkeepers for rampantly throwing garbage in public places, said campaign coordinator Kamal Pokharel.

The campaign which has been maintaining cleanliness in different parts of the town ironically presented gifts to Sunil Thakur of Sunil Hari Cutting Salon and Nisha Mobile Centre of Arjundhara-8, Shanishare for throwing garbage in a tea estate.

"Though dust bins have been installed for systematic waste management, the trend of throwing waste in an insane manner is still there", Coordinator Pokharel said, adding that "We have gifted waste to the litterbugs. We do expect it would bring changes in the behavior of rampant throwers".

Likewise, Arjundhara-6 ward chairperson Loknath Gautam said the litterbugs would be brought into action. "It is the duty of town dwellers to keep own place neat and clean", he added.

Both the shops were penalized Rs 1,100 each for breaking the norms on waste management, The fund raised from penalty would be used for purchasing materials and instruments required for sanitation campaign, he informed.
