Traffic Reform Action Plan implemented

Kathmandu–The Traffic Management and Pollution Control Reform Action Plan-2019 prepared for the Kathmandu valley has been launched today.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sarbendra Khanal launched the action plan prepared to ease the growing traffic congestion and to make the traffic management efficient.

On the occasion, IGP Khanal said theaction plan has been brought to develop Katmandu valley as a model in traffic management. "Now, the Kathmandu valley is going to be clean. We have moved ahead with commitment and it is no time to get entangled in administrative complexities," he said and pointed out the need of support and cooperation of all including the metropolises, municipalities, the Department of Roads, the Department of Transport Management and City Police in order to develop the Kathmandu valley into a beautiful place.

As he said, Nepal Police was working for reforms in the traffic sector coordinating with all the bodies concerned as per the Prime Minister's desire and the 82-point home administration reform plan of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, Ram Prasad Acharya, stressed the need of implementing the action plan in an effective manner through community participation.

Chief of the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority (KVDA), Bhaikaji Tiwari, said the Authority has started carrying out works with the goal of bringing into operation all the corridors within the Valley within the next three years. Chair of Sajha Yatayat Pvt Ltd Kanak Mani Dixit said public transportation service should be promoted to improve the traffic management in the Kathmandu valley.

Chair of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-14 Shova Sapkota, president of Heavy Equipment Entrepreneurs Federation, Tara Bahadur Kunwar among other speakers expressed their commitment to support the implementation of the action plan from their respective places.

The action plan prepared for immediate three months includes topics as pollution control measures, opening corridors, special management of zebra crossing and lane, regulating the bus pocket, construction of overhead bridges and preparing traffic volunteers.
