Reconstruction of schools in Kavrepalanchowk to take one more year

Kavepalanchowk–The reconstruction of community schools damaged by Gorkha Earthquake in Karvepalanchowk district will likely take another year.

Of the total 487 community schools sustaining damages by the 7.6 magnitude earthquake in the district, 28 have been rebuilt in assistance of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), according to the District Education Coordination Unit, Dhulikhel.

School Reconstruction Project Chief Nirmal Kumar Ghimire shared that the reconstruction of other quake-damaged schools would take another year as 85 per cent progress has been made so far towards this end.

He reasoned the untimely selection of schools, delay in release of budget and dispute regarding the ownership of school land for the delay in reconstruction.

There are altogether 690 schools in the district among which 103 are institutional ones. Following the earthquake, teaching learning activities were being conducted in the Temporary Study Centres, according to Ghimire.

Of the total 228 reconstructed schools, 193 schools were rebuilt in aid of the District Project Implementation Unit and 35 from various social organizations.
