One killed, seven injured in gunfire in Rautahat

Sarlahi – A person was killed and seven others were injured in a gunfire incident took place amidst a clash between the cadres of Communist Party of Nepal and Nepali Congress at Ramnagar rural municipality today. 

The deceased has been identified as Ram Bilas Mahato, 55, of Ramnagar rural municipality-4, said police. He is an NC cadre. 

NC Province Assembly member Birendra Singh said that Mahato died in front of his house in the gunfire at 6:30 am. Seven people were injured in the incident and they are receiving treatment at local health institutions. 

An ambulance that reached the incident site to take the injured to hospital was also vandalized. NC Ward chairperson Ram Naresh Mahato was also attacked at the same place on Monday. 

Ward Chairperson Mahato had sustained deep head injury and his left leg was fractured in the incident. The deceased was uncle of the injured ward chairperson Ram Naresh. The incident site is still in tense. 

A large number of security personnel has now been deployed at the incident site and its surrounding area to curb any untoward incidents, said Chief District Officer, Dorna Pokharel. 


Search for those involved in the incident was going on, he added. According to the District Police Office, investigation into the case was underway.
