Frequent transfer of hospital leadership mars health service

Banke –The rampant transfer of government hospital leadership has affected health service delivery from Bheri Zonal Hospital Nepalgunj.

Since its establishment, the hospital has been in operation almost relying on acting Medical Superintendant.
With change in government and subsequent interference, the hospital’s leadership also gets changed. In the period of past 10 years, Bheri Zonal Hospital has received 11 leaderships. Eight among them were in the status of acting chief.

According to Health Regulation, the Chief Medical Superintendant shall be appointed from the general health group. Even the radiologist was also entrusted with the responsibility of chief of the hospital.

The erstwhile government had appointed Prakash Thapa as the acting chief of the hospital but he was relieved of his post in a short span due to political interference.

In his place, Dr Rupananda Adhikari was designated as an acting medical superintendant. The hospital is still being operated under the leadership of acting chief.

The wrong trend of changing hospital leadership in almost every three months has not only stalled the hospital’s expansion and development but also affected service delivery to the general public. ---
