Nepal Cricket Team Slips to 18th in ODI Rankings After Poor Performance

Kathmandu. The impact of continuous disappointing performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup League-2 ongoing in the Netherlands has affected the international One Day (ODI) ranking of the Nepali national cricket team. 

Nepal has dropped one place to 18th in the latest updated ranking by the ICC. According to the new ranking released by the ICC based on matches played until Monday, Nepal has dropped one place from 17th. Namibia has moved up to 17th place, leaving Nepal behind.

Nepal has lost all three matches played so far in League-2. Nepal, which lost two consecutive matches to Namibia, also lost to the home team Netherlands in the third match. Continuous defeats have directly affected not only the points table but also the ranking.

For Nepal, this drop in ranking is not just a quantitative change. ODI ranking is considered an indicator of a team's consistent performance in international cricket. A good ranking has a positive impact on future bilateral series, the competitive level of tournaments, and international recognition.

On the other hand, recent poor results have also made Nepal's journey to qualify for the upcoming One Day World Cup difficult. Nepal, which aimed to finish at the top of League-2, is under pressure after continuous defeats. If Nepal cannot achieve excellent results in the remaining matches, the possibility of directly qualifying for the World Cup may become even weaker.

Nepal still has a chance to improve its ranking as it has some more matches left in this series. For the coach and team management, the remaining matches have reached a 'do or die' situation. It is expected that Nepal will return to form only if it can perform consistently in both batting and bowling departments.

Previously, Nepal had improved its ODI ranking by performing excellently in some important matches on home soil and in League-2. However, the last three consecutive defeats have dealt a blow to that achievement. Nepal is now facing the challenge of making a comeback in the remaining matches and improving its position in the points table and ranking.
