Food Department Orders Recall of Low-Quality 'Quality' Brand Mung Dal

Kathmandu. The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control has ordered the immediate recall of mung dal labeled 'Quality' brand with batch number 30, after it was found to be of low quality. The department has also banned its sale and distribution after the sample collected during market monitoring was found to be substandard in laboratory tests.

The department issued a notice on June 31, 2083, directing the producer, 'Grihini Agro Product' located in Pokhara, Kaski, to immediately withdraw the dal of the said brand from the market.

According to the department, the laboratory test found the dal to be of low quality, contrary to the provisions of Section 16 (A) of the Food Hygiene and Quality Act, 2081.

Under Section 38 (2) of the Act, the department has ordered the immediate withdrawal of all food products of batch number 30 from the market and, under subsection (4) of the same section, has ordered producers and sellers not to sell or distribute it.

It has been informed that further action will be taken according to the prevailing laws if the sale and distribution of this product continues in defiance of this order issued by the senior food research officer of the department.

Additionally, the department has cautioned consumers not to purchase or consume the dal with the mentioned batch number.
