LUMJUNG PRISON CLOSED DUE TO LACK OF BUDGET, 109 INMATES TRANSFERRED

Lamjung. The district prison located in Besisahar Sarafat could not be constructed due to lack of budget and has been closed, with 109 inmates transferred elsewhere.

According to the report prepared by the Building Development and Construction Office, Kaski, an estimated cost of Rs 17 crore 74 lakh for reconstruction has been submitted to the relevant bodies, informed Prisa Gautam, acting jailer of Lamjung Prison. The prison was constructed in 2028 BS.

Currently, there are no inmates in the prison. The post of accounting officer is vacant. Six employees are working in the prison. Chief District Officer Krishnaprasad Khanal informed that the prison building is dilapidated and cannot be operated with minor repairs. When inmates are outside the district, additional time, manpower, and expenses are incurred for presenting them in court, facilitating meetings with relatives, and completing other administrative tasks.
