Woman Arrested for Posing as Police Officer and Defrauding Public

Kathmandu. A woman has been arrested on charges of defrauding the public by claiming to be a police officer.

Deepika Bohora (Tamang), 33, residing in Galkopakha, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-26, originally from Ilam Municipality-10, was arrested by the police on Thursday.

Deepika used to show pictures of herself wearing a uniform, claiming to be a Police Assistant Inspector (ASI) of the Nepal Police. She used to deceive victims by giving various assurances, making them deposit money into her e-service and mobile banking accounts, thereby committing fraud and gaining criminal benefits.

Based on information about her involvement in such activities, a police team dispatched from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, arrested her from Gongabu, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-26. She has been sent to the District Police Complex, Kathmandu, for necessary investigation and action.
