Heatwave Alert Issued for Southern Nepal Regions

Kathmandu. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has indicated the possibility of a heatwave (hot winds) in some areas of the Terai in Sudurpashchim and Lumbini provinces.

According to the daily weather forecast released by the department, an increase in temperature is estimated in the Terai regions of Gandaki and Bagmati provinces. There is a possibility of rain with thunderstorms in various hilly and mountainous districts of the country.

Moderate rainfall may occur in areas including Pokhara, Kathmandu, Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Biratnagar, Dharan, Jiri, and Taplejung.

According to the department, there is a 40 percent chance of moderate rain with thunderstorms in Kathmandu Valley this afternoon and tonight. The maximum temperature in the valley is estimated to be between 29 to 31 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature between 19 to 21 degrees Celsius.

On the other hand, temperatures in Dhangadhi may reach 38 to 40 degrees Celsius and in Nepalgunj 39 to 41 degrees Celsius. Birgunj, Bhairahawa, and Ghorahi will experience heat and strong sunshine.

The department has urged people in areas affected by the heatwave to avoid staying in the sun for extended periods except for essential work, drink plenty of water, and adopt public health safety measures.
