10th National Open Women's Basketball Competition to Begin June 15

Kathmandu. The 10th National Open Women's Basketball Competition will be held from Asar 1.

A total of 8 teams, including 3 from the districts, will participate in the competition, informed the President of the organizing association, Bhim Singh Gurung, at a press conference held on Friday.

The teams participating from the districts are Annapurna Basketball Association, Kaski, Sunsari Basketball Association, and Lumbini Province. The remaining teams are ISA Nepal, Let's Go Basketball Academy, Training Ground, Budhanilkantha Municipality, and Grandee Stars. Competition coordinator Bikash Shahi informed that 50 thousand rupees will be provided as assistance to the district teams.

The winner will receive a cash prize of 50 thousand rupees and the runner-up 30 thousand rupees. A cash prize of 10 thousand rupees each will be awarded to the 'Most Valuable Player'. One emerging player from the districts will be awarded with 5 thousand rupees in cash.

The association has stated that the national women's team will be selected from this competition and will participate in the SABA Women's Championship. President Gurung said that SABA is likely to be held in Nepal or India in September/October 2026.

"India has also submitted a bid along with us for the organization of SABA. There is an 80 percent possibility of it being held in Nepal," said President Gurung.

It is estimated that the competition will cost approximately 13 lakh 50 thousand rupees to conduct. The league-cum-knockout competition matches will be held at the Kirtipur Covered Hall until Asar 6.
