CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel Criticizes Speaker's Role in Parliamentary Debates

Kathmandu. CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has stated that it is not appropriate for the Speaker to come to the defense of the government against questions raised.

Expressing his views on social media Facebook, General Secretary Pokharel also reminded that the players of the parliamentary game are the MPs themselves. Pokharel has objected to the Speaker engaging in debate not only in defense of the government but also with opposition MPs.

Such views from General Secretary Pokharel have come after the Speaker's counter-arguments and defense against the government's criticism by MPs during the House of Representatives meeting.

Pokharel wrote on social media – It is not appropriate for the Speaker himself to engage in the defense of the government against questions raised and in debates with the opposition. The players of the parliamentary game are the MPs themselves.
