Government Prioritizes New Technology and Drones in Disaster Management

Kathmandu. The government has stated that it will prioritize the use of new technology and drones in disaster management. Speaking at a meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee on Thursday morning, Home Minister Sudhan Gurung said that the ministry's plan is to prioritize the use of new technology and drones in disaster management. 

Giving a successful example of relief distribution by drone in Sindhupalchok and Kavre, Minister Gurung informed that the ministry is in the process of purchasing heavy lifting drones that can carry up to 200 kg. 

However, he expressed dissatisfaction with the cumbersome legal provisions in the procurement process. 'It takes 45 days to purchase a drone according to the Public Procurement Act, and by then the monsoon will be over,' he said, 'We need the cooperation of the honorable members in amending the act to facilitate work.'
