4,666 Arrested in Nationwide Drug Busts Over Six Months

Kathmandu. In a span of six months, 4,666 individuals involved in drug trafficking have been arrested nationwide. 

During the said period, 22,620 kg of marijuana, 443 kg of hashish, 19 kg of brown heroin, 14 kg of pollen, 16 kg of opium, and 35,903 tablets of Nitravet, 24,387 ampoules of Diazepam, 35,457 ampoules of Phenergan, 23,696 ampoules of Buprenorphine, 42 ampoules of Lupigesic, 69,0878 tablets of Spasmo, 682,158 tablets of Tramadol, and 1,074 tablets of Promethazine were recovered, according to the Central News Division of Nepal Police.   

Similarly, during the same period, 11,109 absconding defendants were arrested, and imprisonment sentences totaling 4,470 years were executed, with fines amounting to Rs 1,103,894,625 being collected.  

Legal action has been taken against 103 defendants with a claimed principal amount of Rs 3,115,263,310 in money laundering cases. Approximately Rs 1 billion worth of gold, silver, customs evasion, hawala, and funds of unknown origin, among other revenue leakage activities, have led to the arrest and legal action against 758 individuals involved.  

Furthermore, 127 individuals have been arrested with illegal arms and explosives, the police stated.
