Government Committed to Concluding Transitional Justice: Minister Gautam

Kathmandu. Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Sobita Gautam, has stated that the government is committed to bringing transitional justice to a logical conclusion.

Speaking at a meeting of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee under the Federal Parliament's House of Representatives on Monday, she expressed this commitment.

Minister Gautam also said that the government would move forward in collaboration with all parties to conclude this work. She informed that the regulations related to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons, formed to address transitional justice, and the compensation fund for victims have been brought into operation. Minister Gautam stated that the government has also advanced the work of documenting related matters to bring this work to a logical conclusion.

She said, 'A detailed position paper will be prepared with the objective of clearly defining the past, present situation, and future direction of transitional justice. This will be done in consultation with all parties. However, first, we must have a record of what we have done. Only then can we move forward on how to proceed. Therefore, work is underway in the background to prepare the position paper. Financial management, strategies, and action plans necessary to conclude transitional justice will be prepared.'

She added, 'Necessary dialogue and consultation processes at the political level are continuously being carried forward. This is continuously happening. Consultations are being held not only with parties but with all stakeholders. The government is fully committed to concluding transitional justice. I have conveyed this message in various places as well. As per the latest amendment to the Transitional Justice Act, the fund regulations have been operated and the fund has been brought into operation for tasks including compensation. The regulations for both commissions related to transitional justice are ready. This will be done soon. The O&M for the human resource management of both commissions are in preparation.'

Minister Gautam said that the government is also working to create a clear work plan for the dispensation of transitional justice. (News Agency Nepal)
