Nepal Faces Scotland in Crucial Cricket World Cup League 2 Match

Kathmandu. In the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 match scheduled for today, Monday, Nepal will face Scotland. 

The match, to be held at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, will begin at 9:30 AM Nepali time. Scotland has won the toss and decided to bat first.

This home triangular series, which includes the United States, is considered very important for Nepal. Playing in front of the home crowd, the Nepali team is aiming to secure crucial points to climb up the table and directly qualify.

Currently, Scotland is comfortably in the top spot with 38 points from 30 matches. On the other hand, Nepal is in seventh place with only 20 points from 26 matches. Nepal has won 8 matches and lost 15 so far. Nepal faces a significant challenge of winning consecutive matches to stay within the top four, retain its ODI status, and avoid the threat of the playoff qualifiers.

However, Nepal will enter the field with high morale after a spectacular 9-wicket victory against the USA in its previous match. In that game, the USA, batting first, was bowled out for 195. After Shayan Jahangir of the USA was dismissed cheaply, Smit Patel and Shehan Jayasuriya batted steadily, scoring 83 and 50 runs respectively. 

But after they were dismissed, the USA's middle order completely collapsed against Dipendra Singh Airee. Dipendra broke the back of the American innings by taking 4 wickets for 24 runs.

In pursuit of the 196-run target, Nepal's openers Kushal Bhurtel and Asif Sheikh batted responsibly. Asif scored 58 runs, while Bhurtel played a century innings of an unbeaten 120 runs with 13 fours and 4 sixes off 118 balls. Bhurtel remained not out, guiding Nepal to a 9-wicket victory in the 37th over.

Meanwhile, Scotland also comes into this match after securing a thrilling 2-run victory against the USA in their previous game via the DLS method. In the rain-affected match, Scottish captain Richie Berrington secured the team's victory by taking an excellent diving catch in the final over to dismiss Saiteja Mukammalla, who had settled at the crease.

In League 2, Nepal's top run-scorer is Dipendra Singh Airee with 675 runs, and Sandeep Lamichhane is the top wicket-taker with 36 wickets. Similarly, for Scotland, George Munsey is the top run-scorer with 1144 runs, and Brad Currie is the top wicket-taker with 37 wickets.
