Fugitive Arrested from Central Jail for Rape Case

Kathmandu. Police have arrested a fugitive defendant in a case related to rape from Sundhara Central Jail. Nishan Tamang, 24, of Kawasoti Municipality-3, Nawalparasi, who had fled during the Genji movement, has been arrested. Police said that Tamang was arrested on Friday from Bardibas Municipality-5 in coordination with the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office and Mahottari Police. The District Court, Bhaktapur, had on November 14, 2022, sentenced Tamang to 25 years in prison and a fine of Rs 7 lakh in a case of rape and child sexual abuse of a 7-year-old daughter from Suryabinayak Municipality-1. Tamang was serving his sentence in the Central Jail as per the same verdict. Police also said that he had fled from the jail on August 24 during the Genji movement. The Crime Investigation Office said that the arrested person has been sent back to the Central Jail.
