Six Dead, Dozen Injured in Maharashtra Structure Collapse

Maharashtra. At least six people, including three children, have died and more than a dozen have been injured after a structure where they had taken shelter due to heavy rain and strong winds suddenly collapsed in the southwestern Indian state of Maharashtra, local police confirmed on Wednesday.

The incident occurred in Sangli district of Maharashtra on Tuesday evening, police said. It is reported that about 350 devotees who were on a temple visit and pilgrimage on the occasion of a local religious festival were affected by the disaster.

They took refuge inside an under-construction structure to save their lives after heavy rain accompanied by strong winds began. It is reported that the accident occurred when the tin roof and walls of the structure collapsed on them due to strong winds.

Local police said that the rescue team recovered the bodies of six people and rescued the injured and took them to a local hospital. According to the police, the rescue operation has been completed.
