Wheelchair Sports Association Wins Third Ward Cup Women's Basketball Tournament

Kathmandu. Wheelchair Sports Association (WSA) has won the title of the third Ward Cup Women's Basketball Tournament held in Kathmandu.

In the competition organized by the National Disabled Women's Society at Galaxy Public School in Gyaneshwor, WSA became the champion with 6 points by winning all three of its matches on Saturday. Along with winning the title, the team also received a cash prize of Rs 15,000.

WSA defeated Jawalakhel Wheelchair Sports Club 4-2, Spinal Cord Injury Network Nepal 20-4, and BIA 17-2 in the league stage matches. Jawalakhel Wheelchair Sports Club finished second in the competition and received Rs 10,000. It had accumulated 5 points by winning two out of three matches.

Similarly, Spinal Cord Injury Network Nepal (SCINN), which accumulated 4 points by winning one out of three matches, finished third and received a prize of Rs 5,000. BIA, the fourth team participating in the competition, lost all three matches.

According to Prem Sundar Huna, the technical head of the competition, the rule was to give two points to the winning team and one point to the losing team. In individual categories, Jyoti Aryal of WSA was declared the 'Most Valuable Player', while Hyunkala Saud, who scored 24 points, was honored as the highest scorer. Both received Rs 1,000 and a trophy each.

Ward Chairman of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-30 Dal Bahadur Karki, President of Nepal Basketball Association Bhim Singh Gurung, and President of National Disabled Women's Society Devi Acharya distributed the prizes at the closing ceremony. Birukamal Shrestha, President of Saksham Nepal, also provided 30 diapers to the women players with spinal cord injuries. Kathmandu Metropolitan City-30 provided special financial and physical support to complete the competition.
