US Administration Offers Conflicting Statements on Iran Conflict and West Asia Security

Kathmandu. The Donald Trump administration of the United States has created some confusion with its recent varied statements regarding the conflict with Iran and the security situation in West Asia.

While administration officials have stated that a temporary ceasefire is in place and military activities are primarily defensive, they have also indicated that military action could resume if necessary.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the US military is assisting in ensuring the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, this step is purely for defensive purposes and a ceasefire is currently in effect.

However, reports of missile and drone attacks between Iran and the US military during the same period have also surfaced, indicating that the tense situation has not yet completely ended.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the military operation had been completed according to its objectives and that it had been terminated. He also said that a deal with Iran is necessary for regional peace and that the Strait of Hormuz must be reopened.

However, President Trump later announced that efforts to ensure security in the Strait of Hormuz have been temporarily halted. According to him, this decision was made to assess the possibility of a deal with Iran in the coming days.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday morning, President Trump also warned that military action could resume if Iran does not accept the US terms.

The analysis suggests that there is some ambiguity regarding the actual state of the ceasefire and US strategy due to the varying statements from different officials from time to time.
