Nobel Laureate Nargis Mohammadi Hospitalized Due to Serious Health Issues

Nobel Peace Prize winner and human rights activist Nargis Mohammadi of Iran has been admitted to the hospital after her health showed serious problems. Mohammadi, 53, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023, has been imprisoned in an Iranian jail for a long time. Her supporters and family had been warning about her deteriorating health for months.

According to a statement released by Mohammadi's foundation on Friday, she has been admitted to a hospital in Zanjan for treatment of serious heart-related problems (heart attack). Although she was suspected of having a heart attack in March, she did not receive proper medical treatment. According to Mohammadi's lawyer, Mostafa Nili, she initially fainted due to blood pressure problems, but doctors initially refused to admit her to the hospital.

Mohammadi, who has been fighting for human rights and women's rights in Iran for the past two decades, has been repeatedly imprisoned and prosecuted by the Iranian administration. She was most recently arrested in December from the city of Mashhad on charges of opposing the death penalty and campaigning against the mandatory dress code for women. Currently, neurologists and cardiologists are treating her, and her condition is being taken seriously.
