Structures Near Bishnumati River Stopped by Land Ownership Documents

Kathmandu. The bulldozer that reached to demolish structures near the Bishnumati river at Baspark, Kathmandu, has been stopped after locals showed land ownership certificates.

Although the bulldozer reached on Saturday as part of the campaign to remove unauthorized structures on the riverbanks, the work could not proceed after locals showed land ownership certificates.

Owners of 6 houses on the banks of the Bishnumati have protested by pasting land ownership certificates on the walls of their houses. Those houses have been constructed touching the riverbank. The house owners claim to have valid land ownership certificates and are adamant about not letting their houses be demolished under any circumstances.

A large number of security personnel have been mobilized at the scene. Police and officials from the concerned bodies are in discussion about how to proceed, fearing legal complications after the land ownership certificates were shown.

It is understood that further steps will be taken only after comparing the land ownership certificates and river standards with government records.
