Doctors Return to Work After Arrest in Assault Case at Bheri Hospital

Butwal. Doctors and health workers who were protesting have returned to work after police arrested one person for attempting to assault and abuse doctors at Bheri Hospital in Banke. The doctors had started protesting by halting all services except emergencies following the incident. However, all doctors have returned to duty after one of the involved individuals was apprehended, informed the hospital's Medical Superintendent Dr. Nirajan Subedi. According to him, a complaint has been filed against two individuals for attempting to assault and abuse doctors. One of them has been arrested, while the other has not been arrested as they are currently observing mourning rituals, he stated. On Monday, a group had arrived at the hospital regarding the death of 62-year-old Dilsara BK, a resident of Baijanath Rural Municipality-6. The hospital administration stated that the group went to Dr. Subedi's office and attempted to assault him, using abusive language and behaving inappropriately. During that incident, videos of threats to kill doctors, including Chief Consultant Physician Dr. Rajan Pandey, were made public on social media. Dilsara BK, who was admitted for treatment on Baisakh 6, died on Baisakh 13. The hospital's services were disrupted after an attempt was made to attack doctors instead of following legal procedures regarding the incident. Patients coming for treatment at Bheri Hospital, known as the main health center of Western Nepal, were inconvenienced due to the closure of services including OPD. However, all services have now resumed.
