Nepal Launches 15-Day National Nutrition Assessment Campaign for Children

Kathmandu. A 15-day National Nutrition Assessment campaign has been launched with the main slogan 'Timely Identification, Correct Treatment – Basis for a Malnutrition-Free Generation'.

The Ministry of Health and Population has started the campaign with the objective of assessing the nutritional status of children aged six to 59 months, identifying acute and moderate malnutrition risks in a timely manner, and ensuring necessary treatment and services.

Through the campaign, the actual status of malnutrition at the local, district, and provincial levels will be identified, and the basis for formulating targeted nutrition programs by classifying high, moderate, and low-risk areas will be prepared, informed Ministry Spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki.

The campaign, which began on Baisakh 15, will run in all 753 local levels. The assessment work will be conducted at health facilities and vaccination centers, community clinics, ward offices, community buildings, and early childhood development centers.

During this process, each health facility will prepare a detailed plan including the number of target children within its working area, the necessary health worker teams, and material management. Information about the campaign will be disseminated to the community through female community health volunteers, radio, and local media.

Modern equipment such as digital weighing scales, height and length measurement boards, and tapes to measure arm circumference will be used to identify the state of malnutrition. The Ministry believes that the data obtained from this campaign will help identify high-risk areas.

Stating that a healthy, malnutrition-free generation is possible only through everyone's collective effort, the Ministry has requested that parents ensure their children aged 6-59 months undergo nutrition checks during the campaign and make this campaign successful. The campaign will run until Baisakh 30.
