Rastriya Swatantra Party Lawmaker Criticizes Government Ordinance, Calls it 'Not Bravery'

Kathmandu. Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader and Member of Parliament Ganesh Karki has stated that it is not bravery to stop the parliamentary session and bring an ordinance. Karki's statement comes at a time when the ordinance brought by the government led by Balen Shah is facing widespread opposition.

He wrote on social media: 'I am proud of all the friends who have asked for my opinion on the ordinance brought by the government and questioned me in silence by mentioning me. I respect and love all those who understand that the question of law and the expectation of accountability do not spoil the sweetness of friendship. As for the recommendation of the ordinance, whether the situation of stopping the session and bringing an ordinance for a party that secured nearly two-thirds majority is a 'compulsion' or something else will be revealed later, but it is not bravery.'

He further stated: 'Ordinances always come using the rights and laws given by the constitution, but this time too, the recommendation of the ordinance is based on the exact letter of the constitution, not on the spirit of the constitution. The constitution is not a document that lives by its letters; it remains alive by adhering to its spirit. Let the letters of the constitution not limit the spirit of the constitution.'

He mentioned that the questions he raised when previous governments brought ordinances are still relevant.
