Lawmaker Criticizes Government for Using Ordinances Instead of Parliament

Surkhet. UML lawmaker Laxmi Pokharel has made a strong comment on the Balen Shah-led government choosing the path of ordinances.

Posting on social media on Wednesday morning, lawmaker Pokharel questioned whether bypassing parliament to bring ordinances was an exercise in dictatorship.

"Bringing an ordinance is an exceptional matter; the move to bring an ordinance after the parliament has been convened or is about to be convened is wrong," she said. "Here, the parliamentary session called to bring ordinances was stopped."

She stated that this indicates a mindset within the current government that 'I can do whatever I want'.

She further added, "Where did the rule of law get obstructed that the government brought an ordinance? Is bypassing parliament to bring an ordinance an exercise in dictatorship? I request the honorable President not to authenticate the ordinance."
