Authorities prepare to clear illegal structures along Manohara riverbank

Kathmandu. Bulldozers are set to be deployed today to remove encroached structures and squatter settlements along the banks of the Manohara River in Bhaktapur. Consequently, a heavy security presence has been maintained in the area since early morning. 

On Saturday, locals pelted stones at the bulldozer team that arrived to clear the settlement. The team, accompanied by bulldozers, had reached the Manohara riverbank in the evening after clearing the squatter settlement in Gairigaun.

A group in Manohara threw stones at the bulldozers, injuring police personnel as well. Although the team retreated following the local resistance, the government is prepared to clear the area today.
