Kathmandu Metropolitan City to Clear Squatter Settlement in Gairigaun

Kathmandu. Following the clearance of the squatter settlement in Thapathali, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City is now set to deploy bulldozers to the squatter settlement located in the Gairigaun area. According to the Chief of the Metropolitan Police Force, Bishnu Joshi, the demolition is scheduled to take place today.

The Metropolitan Police stated that while the Thapathali settlement consisted of temporary structures made of bamboo and corrugated sheets, the Gairigaun area includes permanent buildings, necessitating additional manpower for the operation. In Thapathali, four bulldozers—two from the Department of Roads and two from the Metropolitan City—were utilized, with two additional excavators brought in later.

The Metropolitan Police have indicated that preparations are underway to begin the demolition in Gairigaun after 1:00 PM.
