Two doctors arrested in Butwal following patient death during abortion

Butwal. Police have taken two doctors into custody in connection with the death of 29-year-old Gita Pandey from Palpa during an abortion procedure. Dr. DB Khatri, proprietor of Khatri Nursing Home, and Dr. Satish Rupakheti, a physician at Indu Lekha Health Clinic, have been arrested by the police.

DSP Nishant Shrivastav, Chief of the Area Police Office, Butwal, stated that the doctors surrendered to the police themselves. The victim's husband, Prakash Pandey, had filed a formal complaint against five individuals, including Dr. Khatri and Dr. Rupakheti, alleging gross medical negligence for financial gain.

In addition to the two doctors, a complaint was registered at the Area Police Office in Butwal demanding investigation and action against Sandhya Basnet and Neelam Gharti Magar of Zonal Pharmacy, as well as Khagendra Prasad Pandey, the proprietor of Indu Lekha Health Clinic. 

Police stated that Basnet, Gharti, and Pandey were arrested on Tuesday morning. Yesterday, relatives had padlocked the three medical institutions where the treatment took place, alleging that the death was caused by medical negligence.
