Nepal Launches Second National Economic Census

Kathmandu. The second national economic census begins across the country today. The National Statistics Office has confirmed that enumerators and necessary supervisors have already reached their designated areas nationwide.

According to the schedule, the field data collection process will be completed within the first week of Ashar. Approximately 5,000 personnel have been mobilized for the census.

The Ministry of Finance has urged everyone to contribute to this effort, as it involves collecting data related to the country's overall industrial and economic sectors. The census will collect basic details across 18 economic areas, including industries, businesses, service sectors, cooperatives, private and public institutions, their numbers, types, investments, employment, production, and service delivery.

During this process, both registered and unregistered large and small business establishments, those providing significant employment or self-employment, other industries, factories, trade and business entities, non-governmental organizations, government institutions, public or private schools, and hospitals will be counted.

Preparatory work for the economic census was completed by the end of Falgun. At the beginning of Chaitra, 84 offices were established across 77 districts and seven additional locations. These offices will remain operational until the end of Ashar.

Previously, the national economic census was conducted in 2075 BS. The data released at that time showed that 923,356 establishments and businesses were in operation across the country.
