Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov Arrives in Beijing for High-Level Talks on Regional Tensions

Beijing. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has arrived in the Chinese capital, Beijing, to discuss the ongoing war and regional tensions in West Asia. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov will hold significant talks with top Chinese diplomat Wang Yi regarding bilateral relations and international issues during his visit.

On Tuesday, China invited leaders from conflict-affected nations, including Vietnamese leader To Lam and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for discussions. A statement issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry noted that these high-level meetings will include a serious review of the war in Ukraine and the current situation in West Asia. Both nations aim to enhance mutual cooperation across various sectors and develop a shared perspective on the international landscape.

Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, economic and political ties between Beijing and Moscow have strengthened significantly. Both countries have previously agreed to work together to reduce rising tensions in West Asia. During a phone conversation on April 5, Wang and Lavrov also discussed collaborating to establish regional peace.

Meanwhile, Chinese Premier Li Qiang stated during a meeting with the leader of the United Arab Emirates that Beijing is prepared to play a more constructive role in restoring peace in the Gulf region. This active engagement by China and Russia signals a potential new diplomatic initiative to resolve the crisis in West Asia.
