France and UK to Lead Multinational Mission for Maritime Security in Strait of Hormuz

Paris. France and the UK are set to host joint talks to facilitate the resumption of vessel movement in the Strait of Hormuz. 

French President Emmanuel Macron announced via social media on Monday that a multinational initiative will be launched with the aim of restoring freedom of maritime navigation. 

According to him, France and the UK, in collaboration with other interested nations, will organize a conference to discuss the formation of a peaceful multinational mission. He clarified that this is an entirely defensive operation.
Macron stated that this mission will remain separate from warring parties and will be implemented as soon as conditions are favorable. Meanwhile, speaking to CNN, a UK government spokesperson stated that London is working with France and other countries to build a broad coalition. 

According to the spokesperson, the focus is on ensuring that vessel movement in critical waterways like the Strait of Hormuz is not obstructed and that no tolls should be imposed on such transit.
