Israeli PM Netanyahu orders direct talks with Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah

Kathmandu. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Thursday that he has ordered his cabinet to initiate direct negotiations with Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah and establish 'peaceful relations' between the two countries. "In light of Lebanon's repeated requests to begin direct talks with Israel, I instructed the cabinet yesterday to start direct negotiations with Lebanon as soon as possible," the statement issued by the Prime Minister's office said.

"The talks will focus on disarming Hezbollah and establishing peaceful relations between Israel and Lebanon. Israel appreciates the call made by the Lebanese Prime Minister to demilitarize Beirut," the statement added.
