Lumbini Provincial Assembly Members Raise Contemporary Issues and Legislative Proposals

Butwal. During the ninth meeting of the seventh session of the Lumbini Provincial Assembly, members drew the government's attention to various contemporary issues on Thursday.

In the meeting, members raised concerns ranging from the demand to formally publish the report of the Gauri Bahadur Karki Commission to issues of flood control and the protection of natural resources.

Provincial Assembly member Malati Sudari demanded that the Karki Commission report be made publicly available through the Prime Minister's Office website.

Provincial Assembly member Krishnakusma Tharu highlighted the growing fear of tiger attacks in Bardiya, stating that priority should be given to controlling or relocating such tigers rather than just focusing on blackbuck conservation.

Provincial Assembly member Bhandarilal Ahir demanded that the government introduce clear policies and plans to control the excessive exploitation of natural resources.

Provincial Assembly member Hema Belbase emphasized the need to increase digital literacy, improve curricula, and establish a provincial cyber desk, while also stressing the importance of conducting digital skill-based training to engage youth in creative sectors.

Provincial Assembly members Tara Thapa, Dilliraj Bhusal, Dhanlaxmi Shrestha, and others also drew the government's attention to various contemporary issues.

During the meeting, Minister of Industry, Tourism and Transport Prachanda Bikram Neupane presented a proposal for theoretical discussion on the 'Lumbini Academy of Arts and Literature Establishment and Operation Bill'. Indrajit Tharu, Bhuwaneshwar Chaudhary, Ratna Bahadur Khatri, and Nima Giri expressed their views on the proposal.

Health Minister Khem Bahadur Saru presented the ministry's progress report. Similarly, Dilkumari Budha, Chairperson of the Provincial Affairs and Law Committee, submitted reports regarding the 'Lumbini Research and Training Academy Bill' and the 'District Assembly and District Coordination Committee Operation Act, 2075 Amendment Bill'.

The next tenth meeting of the Provincial Assembly is scheduled for Chaitra 27 at 11:00 AM.
