Nepal Government Increases Public Transportation Fares

Kathmandu. The government has increased public transportation fares. According to the Department of Transport Management, this decision was made in accordance with the provision to adjust fares whenever fuel prices fluctuate by 5 rupees. The department stated that the increased fare rates are effective from today.

Additionally, fares for passenger vehicles have increased by 16.71 percent. Freight vehicle fares on hilly routes have risen by 21.68 percent, while freight vehicle fares on Terai routes have increased by 15.75 percent, the department reported.

According to the department, the last adjustment to vehicle fares was made on 22 Poush 2081. At that time, the price of diesel was 150.83 rupees per liter.

The department had submitted the necessary file for fare adjustment to the ministry on 22 Chaitra 2082. Following the decision by Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Sunil Lamsal (ministerial level) today, the proposal was approved, and the new fare rates have come into effect.
