Nepal's First Dedicated Geriatric Health Center Opens in Kathmandu

Kathmandu. The Nepal Geriatric Health Center has been established to prioritize the health and well-being of senior citizens.

The center is located at the Manmohan Memorial College and Teaching Hospital in Swayambhu. Led by Dr. Jagdish Kumar Chhetri, it is reported to be the first health center in Nepal dedicated exclusively to senior citizens.

Director Dr. Chhetri stated that the center is staffed by internationally experienced geriatricians, specialist physicians, and physical medicine and rehabilitation experts. He noted that the center was established with the goal of promoting healthy aging, preventive healthcare, and healthy longevity for individuals aged 60 and above.

Key services provided by the center include a healthy aging and longevity program. This encompasses laboratory tests, body composition analysis, physical function assessments such as muscle health, cardiovascular risk screening, diabetes and cancer screening, cognitive and mental health testing, vision and hearing tests, genetic testing, nutritional analysis, and AI-based chronic disease risk forecasting.

“Our focus is on enabling individuals to remain empowered and independent as they age,” said Director Dr. Chhetri.

The center will operate six days a week (except Sundays) from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The center also announced that it will provide specialized OPD services for individuals suffering from dementia and Parkinson's disease. In the near future, Director Dr. Chhetri stated there are plans to expand services to include 'hospital at home,' home-based geriatric physician and nursing care, and caregiver services.
