Tikapur Municipality Launches Door-to-Door Health Services for Elderly and Disabled Citizens

Tikapur, Kailali: Tikapur Municipality has initiated door-to-door health services for senior citizens and individuals with disabilities.

Starting this Chaitra, the municipality has deployed two health workers in every ward to conduct health check-ups at the homes of citizens over 70, as well as those who are infirm or disabled. According to Tikapur Municipality Public Health Inspector Kebalsingh Sarki, the services include health screenings, diagnosis, treatment, counseling, and the free distribution of essential medicines. He noted that a schedule has been established for health workers to visit the community four days every month to provide these services.

“We have begun checking and monitoring chronic diseases, hypertension, and diabetes at home,” said Inspector Sarki. “We are also providing counseling on nutrition, hygiene, and lifestyle.”

The beneficiaries have expressed satisfaction with the home-based care. Masulal Chaudhary, a senior citizen from Ward No. 2, Bijaynagar, shared his relief: “I suffer from high blood pressure and had stopped taking my medication because I could not regularly visit the hospital. Now that health workers are providing it at home, I will take it regularly. We are physically weak and suffer from chronic illnesses; waiting in lines at the hospital is difficult for us. Receiving care at home is much easier.”

Another senior citizen, Punasaram Chaudhary, who is a tuberculosis patient, also reported receiving regular medication and counseling on diet and lifestyle through the home visit program.

Health worker Laxmi Narayan Pokhrel stated that the door-to-door service saves patients time and money while making them feel safe and respected. “Chronic patients require regular check-ups, medication, and counseling,” he said. “Providing services at home also encourages family support in their care. We also provide guidance on hygiene and caregiving methods.” The municipality plans to formalize this service through official procedures to ensure its long-term operation.
