National Assembly Chair Dahal Emphasizes Parliament's Role in Meeting Public Expectations

Kathmandu. National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal, while inaugurating the 20th session, stated that addressing the high expectations of the public toward the new government is the primary and shared responsibility of the parliament. Noting that the National Assembly, which began on 2074 Falgun 21, has successfully completed 19 sessions over eight years, he expressed pride in the assembly establishing itself as a mature, prudent, and permanent house during this period.

Chair Dahal mentioned that in a democratic system, public opinion is paramount, and the main task of the parliament is to provide proper guidance to the government through correct policies, laws, and effective oversight. He emphasized that close cooperation between the House of Representatives and the National Assembly is the cornerstone of democratic parliamentary practice.

He informed that the assembly is currently operating under challenging circumstances due to damage at the Federal Parliament Building in Baneshwor and the fact that the new building under construction in Singha Durbar is not yet complete. Addressing the session, Chair Dahal said, 'I am proud that the National Assembly has been able to play a parental role even amidst the Gen-Z movement and the subsequent political uncertainty. Although the 19th session was short, its importance and dignity remain very high.'

He mentioned the context of the House of Representatives election held on 2074 Falgun 21, where the Rastriya Swatantra Party secured a majority and a new government was formed under the leadership of Prime Minister Balen Shah, stating that the public has high hopes for good governance, transparency, and rapid development from the new government.

Chair Dahal welcomed the newly elected members to the house and expressed his belief that their active and creative participation would further enhance the dignity of the National Assembly. He also appealed to all members to rise above partisan or political differences and prioritize issues of national interest and public concern.
