Bird Flu Outbreak Spreads Across Poultry Farms in Sunsari

Sunsari. Bird flu infection is spreading across poultry farms in various local levels of the district. According to Dr. Manoj Kumar Mahato, Chief of the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Expert Center in Inaruwa, the infection has been detected in poultry farms in various locations, including the district headquarters, Inaruwa.

He stated that the infection was detected in broiler chickens raised by Suman Kumar Rai in Inaruwa Municipality-2, Kusumgachhi. Dr. Mahato also confirmed that bird flu was detected in local breeds of chickens and ducks raised by Suman Govinda Shrestha in Itahari-16. He noted that control measures have been intensified following the confirmation of the disease by the Central Animal Disease Investigation Laboratory after testing samples from various poultry farms in the district. 

Dr. Mahato informed that high alertness has been adopted in the areas surrounding the farms to prevent the spread of the infection, and surveillance has been tightened at other poultry farms as well. He urged farmers to immediately inform the relevant authorities if any abnormal symptoms are observed in their poultry and to protect their birds from external contact. According to him, 19,365 chickens have been culled so far from 14 farms that were deemed suspicious in the district.
