Suspension Bridge in Gulmi Completed Five Months Ahead of Schedule

Gulmi. The suspension bridge connecting Chhalditari and Palukha in Isma Rural Municipality-2 of the district has been completed five months ahead of the stipulated time.

The construction of the 146-meter long suspension (N-type) bridge, built through the Road Infrastructure Development Office, Tansen, was completed early by Astha Samjhana JV, Arghakhanchi. A budget of NPR 17,184,460 was allocated for the bridge construction.

The agreement with the construction entrepreneur was signed on Bhadra 3, 2082, with a target completion date of Bhadra 3, 2083. However, the early completion has brought joy to the local residents.

During the monsoon season, local residents, especially students, children, the elderly, and the sick, faced significant hardship commuting due to floods in the river. Local resident Yam Bahadur Thapa stated that previously, due to the lack of a bridge, some students were deprived of attending school during the rainy season.

According to him, the absence of the bridge necessitated risking crossing the river or using a long, winding detour. With the bridge now operational, a journey of about half an hour will be reduced to just five minutes.

Local resident Ramlal Ghimire said that the bridge's operation will facilitate access to schools and health services, and also increase commercial activity. Local residents expressed happiness that the demand for a suspension bridge, which they had made to political parties for a long time, has finally been fulfilled, albeit late. The bridge is viewed as a crucial infrastructure that will not only connect the two settlements on either side of the river but also uplift the living standards of the citizens in the area.
