Police Crack Down on Pokhara Spas for Employing Minors Against Regulations

Pokhara. Police have initiated major action after finding that spas and beauty parlors operating in the tourist area of Lakeside, Kaski, were employing children in violation of standards.

This fact was uncovered during an inspection by a joint team from the District Administration Office and the police, based on information that underage girls were being kept as workers and used in illicit activities.

On the evening of Chaitra 11, police arrested 8 operators during raids on various spas in Lakeside. Those arrested include Hom Bahadur Budhathoki from Udayapur, Jenisa Shrestha Sunar from Pokhara, Sarmila Pariyar from Chitwan, and Suresh B.K. from Syangja. Police also took Jivan Shrestha from Gorkha, Aprina Khatun from Rupandehi, Raju Thapa Magar from Makwanpur, and Saroj Sunar from Pokhara into custody.

The police have sent the rescued minor workers from those spas to Shakti Samuha for protection, while other workers who have reached adulthood have been handed over to their relatives.

District Police Office Kaski Information Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police Haribahadur Basnet informed that a case has been registered against the arrested operators under the offense against children, and further investigation is underway.
