Australian Environment Faces Intensifying Damage Despite 2025 Projections, New Report Finds

Kathmandu. A new report indicates that although Australia's environment is projected to look better than average in 2025, the damage to wildlife and the natural environment due to climate change is rapidly increasing.

According to the report, the number of species at risk under federal law has reached 2,175, marking a fifty-four percent increase since 2000. In 2025 alone, 39 new species were added.

Furthermore, Australia's sea surface temperature was found to be at an all-time high in 2025. Thermal stress has significantly increased in most monitored coral reef areas, leading to repeated incidents of large-scale coral bleaching.

The lead researcher of the report stated that marine life and the environment are suffering major damage due to rising sea temperatures. Such events, which were previously rare, are now occurring frequently.

The report also showed that the number of species at risk has decreased by an average of 59 percent since 2000. A notable decline has been observed, especially among species of snakes and frogs.
